September & October Classes

We have posted a schedule of classes for September and October. We are offering the complete E-Filing series (Beginning and Advanced Features) on September 8 and September 15. In October, we’re teaching the Legal Research for the Non-Attorney two-part class and a session of our popular Skip Tracing classes. All sessions are free and held at the Seattle law library location. Registration is required and space is limited so call 206-296-0940 to sign up!

Episode 36, Part 2: The Death Penalty in Washington State – The Joseph Self Case

Joseph Chester Self was the 73rd person to be executed in Washington and the last person to be executed in the state until Westley Allan Dodd’s execution on January 5, 1993. During the 30 year hiatus, Washington’s capital punishment statute was declared unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1972.

In Part Two of this episode of KCLL’s Sidebar, we talk to Jim Burns, who was among two men to prosecute Mr. Self. For additional information about the case, you can go to the History Link website which we have linked to here.

July and August Class Schedule Available

Check out our training schedule for new class dates in July and August. In July, we will be offering “Westlaw” and “Skip Tracing”. On July 27, we will teach one of our newest classes “Commencing an Action” in the Community Room at the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent. “Public Sleuthing on Social Networks” and “E-Filing: Advanced Features” round out the August calendar. All of our classes are free of charge. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Call the Library today at 206-296-0940 to sign up!

Don’t Forget SupportCalc!

Just a reminder that we recently installed copies of SupportCalc in both of our branches. SupportCalc is professional child support calculation software from Legal+Plus . The version we’ve installed allows you to create new SupportCalc files and open/edit files you’ve already created back at the office. You can also print completed files — at a minimal charge of 15 cents per page — and/or save them to your own USB drive.

KCLL Now Offers SupportCalc

The King County Law Library now offers SupportCalc in both its Seattle and Kent branches. SupportCalc is a computer program created by Legal+Plus Software Group. With data you provide, SupportCalc helps you fill out the Washington State Child Support forms. The program has gathered together all the laws in Washington State pertinent to the Washington Child Support Guidelines and the mandatory domestic relations forms, as well as a thorough understanding of IRS tables and deductions. Its templates are designed to conform with those developed by the state’s Pattern Forms Committee. SupportCalc can produce the Child Support Worksheets, the Financial Declaration, the Law Enforcement Form, and the Confidential Information Form.
