You Are the Foundation of Our Services Thank You!
In 2009, the library lost half of its county funding for the Maleng Regional Justice Center Law Library. King County Council restored full funding for the Law Library for 2010. This happened because of your voices, along with intense lobbying by many friends.
The King County Law Library is an irreplaceable legal tool, especially for those with limited financial resources. It would have lost critical funding until many of you stepped forward to advocate for it and the services it provides. On behalf of the Board of Trustees of the King County Law Library and the public it serves, thank you for your support. You are the foundation of our services to others.
Judge Mary Yu, President, King County Law Library Board of Trustees
Tech Tip Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor Helps
If you are considering upgrading to the latest Windows operating system from Microsoft, Windows 7, its a good idea to take the time to download the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. The Advisor is a small program that you load onto your existing PC to test its hardware, software and attached devices such as USB drives and printers for compatibility with Windows 7. It can confirm that your PC is ready to run Windows 7 and it recommends fixes if it detects any problems with its current setup. Those who are still running Windows XP, you should particularly consider running the Advisor to help you prepare for the transition to Windows 7.
E-Filing Training Classes
We have developed a two-part class to provide training on how to use the King County Superior Courts E-Filing system. Part One covers how to navigate around the E-Filing site, how to set up an account, how to begin a new case and related topics. Part Two goes over how to add files to an existing case, technical issues concerning document preparation, and other troubleshooting topics. Following each 45-minute session, there is 15 minutes for optional hands-on practice and questions.
The classes are free of charge. Due to limited seating, pre-registration is required. All class sessions will be held in the Legal Research and Training Center in the Seattle library on the sixth floor of the King County Courthouse at 516 3rd Avenue, Suite W621. Call the Library at 206-296-0940 to sign up.

On December 1, 2009, amendments to federal court rules took effect, including important changes to the rules regarding the computation of time. The Federal Rules of Civil Procedure were amended, as were the Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure, the Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure, and the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure. A list of rules amended with respect to time computation, as well as a list of new rules and amendments not having to do with time computation, can be found on the Federal Rulemaking page of the U.S. Courts website.
