Law Library in Jeopardy of Closing
The King County
Council is in the middle of deciding how the General Fund will be spent in 2010.
The King County Executive's Proposed
Budget does not include funding for the Kent branch of the library located at the Maleng Regional Justice Center (MRJC). The
law library plays a vital part in the County's delivery of justice services
to south King County residents. So far this year at the MRJC law library, over 66% of the
daily interactions involve assistance to members of the general
public. The law library's staff and resources support the public's need for
legal information on a variety of topics, ranging from family law, foreclosures,
credit card issues, landlord and tenant, traffic infractions, employment, immigration,
small business concerns, and criminal law. The library supports e-filing for
attorneys who need to comply with the court's mandatory e-filing rules. We also provide
research materials for borrowing which can be very expensive for individuals
to purchase. For more information, check out our website at www.kcll.org.
