Collection Note: Homeland Security & Anti-terrorism (January 2004)

An emerging area of practice of law is homeland security and anti-terrorism. As this body of law develops, the legal publishers are beginning to offer a variety of research aids. The Law Library has recently acquired the following titles to assist in your legal research.

Guide to Homeland Security, 2003 edition, West Group. This title brings together the most important homeland security and anti-terrorism laws, regulations, and administrative materials. It also includes a section-by-section synopsis of the Homeland Security Act, organization charts for the Department of Homeland Security, and a detailed bibliography to aid research.

Abrams’ Anti-terrorism and Criminal Enforcement by Norman Abrams, West Group. Abrams addresses anti-terrorism law with emphasis on the criminal enforcement process and how that process is affected by the government’s invocation of the concept of a “war” on terrorism. It discusses anti-terrorism crimes, special approaches to detention and adjudication, and various kinds of investigative and enforcement activities that are used in the anti-terrorist effort.

The Business Response to New Cybersecurity Threats and Terrorism, American Bar Association Continuing Legal Education, ABA Section of Business Law and the ABA Criminal Justice Section. This book gives practical insights on how management and boards of directors of leading large corporations are dealing with cybersecurity risk and addresses both basic and cutting edge issues.

Procedures for Trials by Military Commissions of Certain Non-United States Citizens in the War Against Terrorism: Annotated Guide, by the National Institute of Military Justice, LexisNexis. This volume contains the text of procedures used before military commissions with analysis and discussion by experts in the field. Following each section is a discussion of the background, policy, and implementation of each section.
