| Collection Note: Creditor/Debtor Law (December
2005) |
| Following the theme of creditor/debtor issues, I’d like to draw your attention to the National Consumer Law Center and its publications. The National Consumer Law Center (NCLC) describes itself as “the nation’s consumer law expert, helping consumers, their advocates, and public policy makers use powerful and complex consumer laws on behalf of low-income and vulnerable Americans seeing economic justice”. They publish a 16 volume set that covers all major aspects of consumer and energy law. This set can be grouped into four major areas: debtor’s rights, credit and banking, consumer litigation, and deception and warranties. The King County Law Library subscribes to most of the titles in NCLC’s 16 volume set. Some of the titles in the Library are: Consumer Bankruptcy Law and Practice, 7th ed., 2004 and Special Guide to the 2005 Act; Fair Debt Collection, 5th ed., 2004; Repossessions and Foreclosure, 5th ed. 2002; Credit Discrimination, 4th ed., 2005; and Fair Credit Reporting, 5th ed., 2002. These publications are updated regularly with paperbound supplements and most NCLC publications are also accompanied by a CD-ROM that contains sample complaints, forms, discovery, jury instructions, etc. If you are not familiar with these valuable aids, I invite you to visit the Library and check them out. |
